Hi,
I'm using vRanger 3 for about three years with VI 3.5 and VCB. But now we gonna upgrade our VMware environment to vSphere 4.1 and I want to upgrade\have to upgrade to vRanger 5.
Here the "Backup Path" in our current environment. vRanger 3 creates every Weekend a full backup of our VMs and store it to a local Windows directory. We want to hold the last 4 versions of these weekly backups but the local storage hasn't enough space for that. So we decide to copy every Sunday night all backups on tape with a third-party backup software. And next weekend before starting with new vRanger backups, all old backups on local storage gonna deleted by script. The restore is possible because vRanger 3 backups are only simple files. No repository, no database ...
My question: Is that still possible on vRanger 5?
I create a repository and adjust backup retention to 1 full. On Sunday night I copy the repository folder (with all savepoints) to tape with the third-party software. I think so far okay. But, in case of a restore of an older backup? I restore the savepoint to local storage and then? Is a vRanger restore of an old (in database deleted) savepoint possible? Or is it possible to import an old savepoint to vRanger repository and then restore it?
Hope someone can help me. Thanks in advanced!
