Performance tuning vRanger to run backups faster

Hi there,

I recently started working with vRanger when I switched jobs.   I'm backing up 50ish VM's at night that vary in size from 40GB to 300GB or so.   The backup job is a Differential backup with 3 savepoints and 3 threshold count.

The VM cluster has a single VA custom configured with 4vCPU 3GB of RAM and 100GB scratch disk.  The VM Cluster itself has 5 Physical Servers all with 12 to 16 CPUsand 128 to 64GB of RAM.

In VMware I created two folder to put VMs in Backup and Don't Backup to keep things simple and then put the VMs I want to backup in the Backup folder and created a Job in vRanger to backup anything in that folder with the above job.

My backup target is a  file share mounted on a Windows server that is connected to a IBM DS3400 4gb Fiber SAN.

Now all that being said, my throughput during backups is on average around 20MB/s and it is taking me in excess of 22 hours to run the job with 50's VMs.

Is there anyway I could improve the speed of the backups?  As I said I'm new to the product so I'm really looking for some documentation or guidence on how to make things faster.    Should I go to more VA's in the cluster?

I'd very much appricate any suggestions,

Robert
