Restore of ESX5 VM to the ESX4 is not supported. This is a VMware limitation.
You will see "version is incompatible with the ESX host selected" error in Ranger GUI.
Following procedure works for me. But may not work in every situation.
- Open savepoint VmConfig.metadata file in a text editor and replace VMwareXMLStorage50 tag with VMwareXMLStorage40 twice (opening and closing tags).
- Replace tag <version xmlns="urn:vim25">vmx-08</version> with <version xmlns="urn:vim25">vmx-07</version>
- Save file.
- Configure "Restore from Manifest" job.
This is a workaround that worked. But may not in every situation.

2. Replace tag <version xmlns="urn:vim25">vmx-08</version> with <version xmlns="urn:vim25">vmx-07</version>
3. Save file.
4. Try "Restore from Manifest" one more time.
