I've been using vRanger for some time now and I haven't yet been able to use it the way I'd like to.
Basically, my goal is to create one full backup every week on a pre-determined day and differential backups every other day of the week. I also need to take these backups to an external USB drive that we rotate out of the office every few days.
What I've set up so far looks like this:
- Retention Policy: 1
- Threshold Count: 6
- Threshold Size: 50%
I manually check for completion every morning and launch FreeFileSync to sync terabytes of data on the external USB.
My concerns:
- I'm unable to create a post-process command that'd initiate FreeFileSync, whenever a backup is finished.
- I'm unable to force vRanger to create a full backup every friday, or every 7 days. Even with the settings above, the last full backup is dated 13 days ago.
- My repository has a 350GB locked file which doesn't map to any visible backup in the repository window. The file is older than any backups and is named ".06e15e1a-88fa-448d-94b0-f6de76fd6306.var". May I safely delete this?
- Is there a better way to take the backups out of the office on a USB drive, rather than through a third-party application?
Any tips, tricks or hints to improve my setup would be greatly appreciated. I really wish to automate the process as much as possible, having to supervise the process every day is a hassle.
Thanks!
