I am having this problem when trying to fall back a Windows 2008 VM.
My first question is what is "Open snapshot"? does it mean just a snapshot, or a snapshot being created currently?
I have a Windows 2008 VM with 3 snapshots. At first, I setup a replication job for it and it's working OK. the replica VM was created without problem, I did "test failover" and confirmed the replica is working. Then I did "failover", so the original VM was shut down, the replica VM was up. the replica VM doesn't have any snapshot ( original one has three snapshots but the replication was running OK any way).
Now I want to fail back, I choose fail back but sync the replica back to original VM first, then I got this error:
Replication Job Summary Replicate 'torrdv400(Win2008R2)'
vRanger Host | Backup Type | Start Time | End Time | Duration | Successful | Failed | Aborted | Canceled |
TOR-VRANGER | Differential Replication | 2:55 PM | 2:57 PM | 00:02 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 0 |
Machine Name | Result | Start Time | End Time | Duration | Read | Stored
torrdv400(Win2008R2) | Failed | 2:54 PM | 2:56 PM | 00:03 | - | -
Error: Open snapshots are not supported. |
I searched Quest support, at first, I thought it's https://support.quest.com/SolutionDetail.aspx?id=SOL86466&pr=vReplicator&st=Published , so I powered the replica off, found the vmsd file and deleted it, powered it up, a new empty vmsd file was generated, then I tried failback with sync again, still got same error.
Also found https://support.quest.com/SolutionDetail.aspx?id=SOL83247&pr=vReplicator&st=Published , but my replica VM doesn't have any *0000* file and *.*sn file, so it doesn't look like same problem.
Do I have to remove the three snapshots from the original VM before fail back to it? If vReplicator can't fail back to a VM with snapshot, then it shouldn't allow to create the replica from it at the first space.
I am using vRanger Backup & Replication 6.1.0.35402 on a Windows 2008 VM.
